Glamorgan Dragons move closer to the leaders
Ralph Dellor - 14 August 2002

Glamorgan Dragons have moved closer to the top of Division One of the Norwich Union League by virtue of a three-wicket win over Durham Dynamos at Chester-le-Street. The Dragons are breathing fire down the necks of Worcestershire Royals with the leaders just two points in front, but the Dragons still have a game in hand.

The Dynamos won the toss and elected to bat first, but apart from 42 from Michael Gough, they could not withstand the Dragons' attack. Darren Thomas was the most successful of the Welsh bowlers with three for 31 from his six overs. There were also three catches for wicket-keeper Mark Wallace who featured in the first three wickets to fall, and then Matthew Maynard held on to three catches of his own.

It was not all straightforward for the visitors, even chasing a small total of 161. Michael Powell and Maynard steadied things after the loss of two quick wickets, but it was left to the captain Steve James with 55 not out to see his side to victory with three wickets but more than ten overs in hand.
