Lehmann still under injury cloud after check AAP - 18 August 2002
SYDNEY - Darren Lehmann's place on the Australian limited overs cricket tour to Kenya remained in jeopardy after he failed to secure a medical clearance today. Lehmann fractured his little finger on his left hand eight days ago playing in the final match of his stint with English county side Yorkshire. He flew to Melbourne today to have the injury assessed by Australian team doctor Trefor James but it was inconclusive. The selectors were to discuss Lehmann's position later tonight with the possibility he could undergo further examination before the team departs on Monday week for the triangular series with Pakistan and Kenya in Nairobi. They may decide Lehmann would be better off resting the injury and rejoining the Australian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy which follows in Colombo from September 12-29. In that case a replacement - likely an allrounder like Ian Harvey or Andrew Symonds given Lehmann's useful bowling ability - could be picked from the Australia A squad currently in training for a seven match limited overs tour to South Africa. © 2002 AAP
