John Crawley returns for Hampshire's vital relegation clash
Richard Isaacs - 26 August 2002
Hampshire welcome back John Crawley for the first time in a Frizzell County Championship match for nearly six weeks, as they face a massively important Rose Bowl clash against fellow relegation threatened Yorkshire, starting on Tuesday (August 27).
Crawley has not played a four-day game since the match at Leicester in mid-July, but replaces out-of-form Lawrence Prittipaul in an otherwise unchanged starting 11 to that beaten by an innings at The Oval on Sunday, and will travel down from Leeds, where he is in action for England in the third Test against India.
That means there is still no Alan Mullally, who despite receiving treatment on his troublesome side strain through a specialist whilst in London last weekend, has failed a fitness test, so James Tomlinson keeps his place.
James Hamblin also retains his position in place of Chris Tremlett, while Nic Pothas continues to keep Adrian Aymes out of the side – although the latter is still struggling with a slight injury.
Hampshire: Neil Johnson, Jason Laney, Will Kendall, Robin Smith (capt), John Crawley, John Francis, Nic Pothas (w-k), Dimitri Mascarenhas, Shaun Udal, James Hamblin, James Tomlinson.
Yorkshire: Chris Taylor, Matthew Wood, Matthew Elliott, Anthony McGrath, Michael Lumb, Gary Fellows, Richard Blakey (capt/w-k), Richard Dawson, Ryan Sidebottom, Chris Silverwood, Steve Kirby.
