Dawn KGA squeeze into final

Karachi Goan Association (KGA) Gymkhana squeezed into the final of the Seventh Danish Trophy Ramazan tournament beating Saddar Town by seven runs on Tuesday.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, KGA were restricted to 141 for seven in 20 overs, due to some tight bowling backed up by splendid fielding by Saddar Town.

Hilary Rodrigues top scored for the home team with a polished 42. Sunil Shanker unbeaten with 22 and Nadeem Tariq (20), also made useful contributions.

Off-spinner Haq Nawaz two for 16 and skipper Asif Azeem two for 24 shared the bowling honours.

Saddar Town with Habib-ur-Rehman leading the way kept up the run rate for victory. But once Habib fell, caught on the boundary line and Haq Nawaz was run out for 27. KGA achieved victory by seven runs with Saddar Town stranded at 134 for eight wickets after their 20 overs expired.

Spinners Mohsin Akhtar two for 17 and Hilary Rodrigues two for 21 made victory possible.

Hlary was later named the Man of the Match.

Wednesday's fixture: KGA Gymkhana v Mohammad Hussain CC at 1-30 p.m. (Final).

dolphins shocked

The star studded Baqai Dolphins were shocked on Tuesday when Dewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills beat them by 69 runs in the semifinal of the Dalpat R. Sonavaria Ramazan Trophy.

Put into bat after losing the toss, Dewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills were restricted to 166 for nine wickets in 25 overs due to some fine bowling by Adnan Malik three for 31 and Yousuf Ahmed two for 22.

Farhan Adil (37), Iftikhar Ahmed (24), Ahmed Zeeshan (21) and Fahadullah (20), made useful contributions with the willow.

Baqai Dolphins lost half their side with only 56 on the board. Failing to recover from this miserable start, Dolphins were sent packing, skittled out for 97 runs in 18.4 overs,

Atiq ul Zaman (31) was the only batsman to face the Deewan Sugar Mills attack with confidence.

Abdul Hafeez two for 17 and Adnan Kaleem two for 25, made victory possible for their team.

Deewan Sugar Mills will now meet A.O. Clinic in the final.
