Rikki Clarke signs new five-year contract with Surrey County Cricket Club Surrey CCC Media Release - 5 December 2002
Surrey County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Rikki Clarke has agreed a new five-year contract. Rikki had an incredible season, scoring a century on his first-class debut, helping Surrey win the Frizzell County Championship their third title in the last four years, being called up to the England one-day squad and being named young cricketer of the year by the Cricket Writers Club. Rikki Clarke stated: "I am delighted to have signed a five year deal with the County with whom I have grown up with in cricketing terms since I was nine. I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else or ever playing against Surrey. This deal gives me a platform on which to build after my initial season. My aims are to be a Surrey regular and win trophy's as well as representing my country as soon as possible" Keith Medlycott, Surrey County Cricket Club Manager stated: "This is fantastic news for the Club. Given the impact Rikki made last year on his debut first class season the appetite around the counties to sign him was fierce. This signing is a clear indication of our intent to build on the success of the last seven years as well as to continue to develop our quality young players and help them in their aim to reach the highest level. Rikki was outstanding last season and we had no hesitation in offering him a five year contract." © Sussex CCC
