Darren Stevens, Leicestershire's exciting 26-year-old batsman has signed a new two year contract with the club.

Hinckley-born Stevens, who is spending the winter at the England Academy in Australia, put pen to paper on his new deal on a brief visit home for Christmas. Leicestershire general manager Kevin Hill said: "I am delighted that Darren has agreed to sign for two more years. It is excellent news for the club and the supporters. He is a very exciting talent who, will I am sure, play a big part in the success we are looking to achieve."

Last summer - his first full season in the first team - Stevens scored 847 runs in the Championship at an average of 33.88 and 651 in Norwich Union League games at an average of 43.48. He was also awarded his County cap during the season.

Tipped by many as a future England player, Stevens has attracted the interest of several other counties and it is a coup for Leicestershire that he has committed himself to Grace Road for a further two years.

Leicestershire now hope to complete their team building plans for the new season with the announcement of two overseas players in the near future.
