QEA Trophy Second Round Day-2 Report
Pakistan Cricket Board - 28 December 2002

A big unbeaten century by opener Rizwan Aslam put Lahore Whites in a commanding position against Gujranwala on the second day of the four-day QEA Trophy second round fixture at the LCCA ground on Saturday.

Rizwan, who began the day at 40 in Lahore's 69 for one in response to the visitors 179, was unconquered on 165 as the home team reached 326 for five. Rizwan clobbered 21 boundaries and has been occupying the crease for exactly seven hours during which he has received 354 deliveries.

Rizwan featured in a 150-run second wicket stand with Khurram Siddique who contributed a 162-ball 63 that was laced with just four hits to the fence.

A magnificent century by Nauman Aman helped Rawalpindi post 281, what now looks a decent total, against Karachi Blues who finished the day tottering at 33 for three. Nauman, who walked in on Friday with the home team reeling at eight for three, stroked a masterly 142 that included 19 boundaries and two sixes. He faced 234 deliveries during 295 minutes of batting.

Together with Sheraz Khalid, Nauman added 172 runs for the fourth wicket. Nauman chipped in with an invaluable 73 that came off 186 balls and included 11 boundaries.

The performance of Sheraz and Nauman left Karachi Blues left-arm pacer Imranullah to take back stage despite a marvelous performance. Imran, who had picked up all the three Rawalpindi wickets that fell on the first day, finished up with six for 51.

At the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, Test opener Saeed Anwar was one of the three half century makers for National Bank who replied with 295 in response to Faisalabad's 172. Faisalabad, trailing by 123 runs on first innings, were 41 for two at stumps.

Saeed hit 58 from 130 balls during 194 minutes of batting. His innings included eight boundaries. However, Qaiser Abbas was the top scorer with a 167-ball 87 that included 11 boundaries and a six. Skipper Mushtaq Ahmed also showed his batting skills by scoring a rapid 41-ball 62 with the aid of 11 boundaries.

Ghulam Ali slammed an attractive century as PIA finished at 359 for six in reply to Peshawar's 144. Ghulam Ali, who started the day at 27 in PIA's 54 for two, hit 138 from 270 balls after occupying the crease for 381 minutes. His innings included 14 boundaries. Together with Asif Mujtaba (61), Ghulam added 126 runs for the third wicket and added another 116 for the fifth wicket with Mahmood Hamid who was batting on 78.
