Monde Zondeki
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 6, 2002
Wisden overview A wiry, whippy-shouldered fast bowler, capable of searing pace and impressive swing, Monde Zondeki made an immediate impact on international cricket when he picked up a wicket with his very first delivery – Sri Lanka's Marvan Atapattu in the fifth one-day international at Bloemfontein in December 2002. Zondeki was only 20 years old at the time, and with the series already secured, he was picked ahead of his Border team-mate, Makhaya Ntini, to gain valuable experience. Like Ntini, Zondeki comes from King William's Town in Eastern Province, and has also been fast-tracked into the national side as South Africa seek to achieve a representative racial balance. There was no doubt, however, that he was worth his place in the side, after taking 16 wickets in four matches for Border in the 2002-03 season, at an average of 23.
