A decisive ground Wisden CricInfo staff - December 18, 2002
WestpacTrust Park, Hamilton A recent inclusion as a Test venue, Hamilton hosted its first match 11 years ago. Since then, nine Tests have been played here.Like the Basin Reserve, WestpacTrust Park has been producing more results of late. All four Tests played here in the last three years have ended decisively – with New Zealand winning three of those – while four of the previous six matches were draws. India have played here twice, and both matches were drawn. Bad weather had a hand to play in 1993-94, but in 1998-99 the batsmen held sway. A total of 1495 runs accrued for the loss of 30 wickets that time – almost 50 runs per wicket. Rahul Dravid enjoyed it the most, scoring a century in each innings, while Javagal Srinath will have happy memories too – he scored 76 in a 144-run eighth-wicket stand with Dravid, and took a five-for in New Zealand's first innings. Like Wellington, Hamilton favours the fast bowler. Out of 298 wickets that have fallen here in 10 Tests, the seamers have accounted for 225 of them, at 27.11, while spinners have managed only 73 wickets at 36.53.
