NZ want Wright as coach Wisden CricInfo staff - December 29, 2002
New Zealand want John Wright as coach after his contract with India ends next March, according to a PTI news agency report. While Wright refused to discuss the subject, Martin Snedden, the chief New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief, said Wright would probably be interested in the job once the term of the present coach, Denis Aberhart, ends in April. "I have not spoken to John on the subject and nor do I plan to," Snedden added. "He is all wrapped up with his team at the moment and there is the extra pressure of being back in New Zealand, so I'm leaving him well alone." Wright's contract with India ends soon after the World Cup in February and March, and there have been rumours that he is keen to return to New Zealand, for whom he played 82 Tests between 1977-78 and 1992-93.
