Vinod Kambli thrashes Central bowlers Staff Reporter - 28 February 2002
Continuing a blazing run of form in this tournament, Vinod Kambli made an unbeaten 56 in chasing Central Zone's meagre total at Gurgaon on Wednesday. Batting first after winning the toss, Central Zone's batsmen completely let their side down. Barring opener and skipper Gagan Khoda, who made 47 off 64 balls, none of the other batsmen could make any significant contributions. When Khoda fell as the fifth wicket at 109, the remaining wickets fell in a rush, and Central Zone were bundled out for just 130 in 32.3 overs. A target of 131 was never going to be challenging to a formidable West Zone team, and when the openers put on 34 runs for the first wicket, the trend was set. Kambli came in at number three and hit seven fours and a six in making 56 off 74 balls, batting first with Altaf Merchant (36) and then Jacob Martin. Kambli and Martin (11*) took West Zone to a win in just 33.5 overs, a comprehensive eight-wicket win that earned them five points from the match. © CricInfo
