Michael Vaughan, a matchwinner with the ball? An unlikely scenario before this tour, but today his figures of 10-1-37-2 - in a match of over 500 runs - were absolutely crucial to England's victory. Our graph shows the line that Vaughan bowled, and accuracy was central to his success: all the deliveries on middle or any further leg side were to India's left-handers - a perfect line to cramp them for room, and from 18 deliveries pitched outside off, he conceded only 6 runs.

In all Vaughan conceded just 10 runs in boundaries in 10 overs, an outstanding effort for a man who was seen as a part-time bowler at best. One performance does not make Vaughan a bona fide one-day allrounder, but the manner in which he keeps his cool - with the ball at least - bodes well for the future.
