Wasim fit for one-dayers
Wisden CricInfo staff - February 9, 2002

KARACHI (AFP)
Wasim Akram has been declared fit enough to join the Pakistani team for the one-day series against West Indies, the Pakistan Cricket Board said.

Wasim and allrounder Shoaib Malik will join the team for the three one-day internationals at Sharjah after the current two-Test series. Pakistan won the first Test and were in a commanding position on the third day of the second Test, closing the third day on 130 for 1 - a 338-run lead.

The Tests and one-day matches are being played at Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates due to security concerns in Pakistan.

Faisal Iqbal and Danish Kaneria will return home from the Test squad to make way for Wasim Akram and Shoaib Malik.

Pakistan chief selector Wasim Bari told AFP that Akram was selected after passing a fitness test. "He is now fit enough to play international cricket and we got the feedback from the doctors."

Wasim, 35, injured a hamstring during the first Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka last month and has not played since. He has 440 one-day international wickets, the most by any bowler.
