89 all out
Wisden CricInfo staff - February 16, 2002

  • England were bowled out for 89, their lowest total in one-day internationals against New Zealand, their second-lowest against anyone and their lowest overseas. Their lowest is 86, made against Australia at Old Trafford last summer; their lowest overseas was 94, also against Australia, at the MCG in 1978-79; and their worst against New Zealand was 127, at Christchurch in 1982-83.
  • New Zealand won by 155 runs, their biggest victory by a runs margin over England, surpassing their 103-run win at the Basin Reserve in 1982-83.

  • This was England's third-heaviest one-day defeat. They lost by 165 runs to West Indies at Arnos Vale in 1993-94, and by 162 runs to Australia at Melbourne in 1998-99.

  • Chris Harris became the first New Zealander, and the 25th in all, to play 200 one-day internationals.

  • Andre Adams took the new ball for the first time in nine one-day internationals – and took 3 for 13, the third consecutive match in which he'd improved his best bowling figures. He took 2 for 25 in the first match of this series, at Christchurch.

  • Nathan Astle took 3 for 4, his best figures in eight ODIs against England. His previous-best return was 2 for 26, at the Basin Reserve in Wellington in 1996-97.

  • Craig White took 2 for 53, and in the process became the 11th Englishman to take 50 wickets in one-day internationals. White was playing in his 39th match.

  • White also made 11, four runs more than he had managed in his previous 10 one-dayers.
