Dawn Tabish spins Karachi Whites to emphatic victory
6 January 2002

Off-spinner Tabish Nawab captured six for 39 as Karachi Whites coasted to a 98-run victory over Karachi Blues in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-I cricket clash at KCCA Stadium here Saturday.

Karachi Blues folded up for 205 in their second innings after being set a target of 304 in 64 overs.

Earlier, Saeed bin Nasir completed a thoroughly deserved century which enabled Whites to close their overnight second innings at 270 for two after an hour's play on the fourth and final day.

The slim-built right-hander, who resumed at 73, followed his first innings' 68 (run out) with 101 off 193 balls in the unfinished third wicket partnership of 144 in 147 minutes with Hasan Raza.

Saeed's second first-class century, which took 210 minutes, was laced with eight fours and one six. Hasan, meanwhile, remained unbeaten with 65 off 106 balls with the aid of four boundaries.

The Blues lost six wickets in the afternoon session to reach 181 for eight at tea. Zeeshan Pervez was the only batsman to cross 30. He was stumped for 43, having struck seven fours during his 61-ball knock.

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi chipped in with the wickets of Nomanullah (23) and Farhan Adil (26) while pacer Mohammad Hasnain got rid of openers Asim Kamal (2) and Mir Rashid (15).

The victory earns last season's runners-up maximum 12 points.
