Ranji round-up Staff Reporter - 6 January 2002
Maharashtra bowled out on Day One Consistent batting performances throughout the line-up took Maharashtra to a total of 321 on Day One of their Ranji Trophy league match against Baroda at Pune on Saturday. An opening partnership of 111 between JS Narse and Niranjan Godbole served as a good foundation for the innings. Narse made exactly 50, while Godbole scored 63. The two departed in quick succession, however, and the next sizeable partnership was of 106 runs for the fourth wicket between Abhijit Kale and KD Aphale. Kale made 65 off 76 balls, dismissed with the score on 235. Aphale fell 11 runs later, having scored 43. Thereafter, no significant scores emerged, and Maharashtra folded for 321 in 87.1 overs. For Baroda, HS Parmar took 3-71 off 17 expensive overs. Saurashtra bat out slow day Saurashtra spent an entire day and 93 overs to finish on 208/4 on the first day of their Ranji Trophy league match against Mumbai at Mumbai on Saturday. Winning the toss, Saurashtra opted to take first strike at the Wankhede Stadium. Opener PP Joshi was dismissed with the score on 60, having made just 10 off 45 balls. His partner Sujith Somasunder scored faster, making 48 off as many balls before falling five runs after Joshi's dismissal. Thereafter, it was all Sitanshu Kotak. Unbeaten at the close, he scored abominably slowly, making 53 off 231 balls. Partners came and went at the other end, but Kotak's adherence to the crease ensured that Saurashtra did not lose too many wickets. FU Bhambhaniya accompanied Kotak at the close of play, unbeaten on 13 off 81 balls. For Mumbai, Paras Mhambrey took 3-36 off 18.1 overs. © CricInfo
