Michael Clark selected to make debut for Western Australia Western Australian Cricket Association - 10 January 2002
The following players have been named by the WA Selectors, to represent the Western Warriors v the Victorian Bushrangers.
The Western Warriors will play the Victorian Bushrangers in a day/night ING Cup game at the WACA ground, on Wednesday 16 January 2002.
Michael Clark has been selected to debut for the Western Warriors.
Speaking on his selection, Clark said, "It's a dream come true to be selected to play for WA. It's something that I've always wanted to do, and dreamed of doing.
"It wasn't a goal that I set myself at the start of the season because I thought it was perhaps a little bit too far off. I really just wanted to play some good club cricket for Subi-Floreat then see what happened next year. It's only my second season of senior cricket, so I'm just thrilled.
"I'm not going to get too far ahead of myself though. I just want to bowl a good line and length against the Vics, do my best for the team and make sure we have a win.
Michael Clark is the son of former WA swing bowler Wayne Clark. Wayne Clark was also coach of the Western Warrior's for the past six seasons, prior to Michael Veletta's appointment this season.
Speaking on Michael's selection Wayne said, "Michael has come back from adversity after his setbacks with football and thoroughly deserves the opportunity to play cricket for WA. Deb and I are just very proud of him because it's something that he's achieved by himself."
Michael Clark comes into the Western Warrior's team alongside Sean Cary, as replacements for Matt Nicholson, and Brad Williams. Nicholson will miss the ING Cup game due to precaution over a knee injury and Williams has been selected in the Australian squad for the VB Series.
Also, Justin Langer returns from international duties and will captain the team.
