Somerset pay their respects to David Oldam
SOMERSET Article - 10 January 2002

Somerset County Cricket Club were well represented at the service held for their former scorer David Oldam at Taunton Deane Crematorium earlier this afternoon.

Members of the committee, members of non-playing staff both past and present and several current players all gathered to pay their final respects to David, the first team scorer at the club between 1983 and 1999, who died early in the New Year.

During his 16 years in charge of the scorebook, David never missed a single match, home or away, and even after retiring continued to make all of the public announcements at the County Ground on match days.

In his address the Rev C Curnow, who was officiating at the service, read a eulogy that had been written by Somerset County Cricket Club committee member Robert Appleyard from Bath, who had known David Oldham for many years. This included several anecdotal tales and incidents from David's time as county scorer.

After the service a large number of those present returned to the Colin Atkinson Pavilion at the County Ground, where refreshments were provided.
