Cullinan century boosts Strikers while Strydom keeps Bears in the hunt
CricInfo Reporter - 17 January 2002

Daryll Cullinan produced his first major innings of the domestic limited overs season with an unbeaten century that set up the Highveld Strikers' 24-run win over North West at the Wanderers in the Standard Bank Cup on Wednesday. And in Kimberley Border captain Pieter Strydom was again in fine all-round form as the Bears beat the Griqua Diamonds by 60 runs.

Cullinan hit 102 not out to lift the Strikers to 209 for four, finally finding form after a succession of indifferent scores. He had scored only 89 runs in seven innings before Wednesday, but with Australia arriving next month, it was a timely reminder from South Africa's senior batsman that there might be something left in him yet.

Faced with a moderate target, North West made something of a mess of their chase with only Graham Grace staying around for any length of time with his 94. Johnson Mafa (three for 42) and Clive Eksteen (three for 30) both got among the wickets as North West were bowled out for 185.

In Kimberley, Strydom scored 48 and took three for 36 with his slow left-arm spin as Border continued their revival. Thanks to Strydom, Stepen Pope (53) and Mark Bruyns (51) Border reached 244 for eight before bowling Griquas out for 184.
