Four run outs see Canada tie with Bangladesh
Lynn McConnell - 22 January 2002

In a day that produced two sensational upsets the fact that Canada managed to tie with Bangladesh seems comparatively small beer.

Bangladesh scored 213/7 in their innings. However, they had a struggle to get to that position after being 115/6 at one stage. Gazi Salauddin, the opener, scored 35 while Mohammad Ashraful scored 32 before Ali Arman gave some substance to the score as he scored an unbeaten 49 in the midst of a 76-run eighth wicket partnership with Murad Khan who was 31 not out.

Canada's Glen Roberts took two for 45 from eight overs while opening bowler Umar Bhatti had an impressive haul with one for 33 from 10 overs with Nathan Richards right behind him with one for 35 from his 10 overs.

Canada got off to a fine start in their reply with an opening stand of 60 between Gibran Rahaman (40) and Bhatti (33).

But the real thrust to the innings was provided by captain Ashish Bagai who scored 82 not out off 99 balls. The pressure went on in the latter overs as the Canadians had four run outs before the runs to tie the game were scored from the last ball with Canada having one wicket in hand.

Ali had two for 23 from his 10 overs while Test player Ashraful took two for 28.
