PCB meeting reviews current status
Pakistan Cricket Board - 23 January 2002

Chairman PCB, Lt. General Tauqir Zia on Friday chaired a series of meetings of senior officials to discuss progress on various on-going development projects, issues related to the marketing and other aspects of the upcoming West Indies Cricket Tour, to be played at Sharjah.

In a meeting held to update him on progress of the various development projects, he was told by officials concerned that by the end of March 2002, Eleven cricket grounds in Sindh and Balochistan will be ready, complete with the pavilion and other necessary infrastructure. Abbottabad ground will be ready by May, complete with a pavilion and other necessary facilities to be available for use during summer months and will boost cricket in Abbottabad, as it will be utilized by local clubs.

The matter regarding the formal foundation laying ceremony of the Bugti Stadium, Quetta, was also discussed which will be undertaken shortly.

Another matter discussed at the meeting related to the proposal of building a shopping complex and Club House at NSK. A Committee was set up to submit recommendations in this regard. The development of LCCA ground was also discussed.

PCB Chairman was given an update on the progress of all arrangements of the upcoming West Indies Cricket Tour, to be played at Sharjah and related marketing issues. Financial matters regarding West Indies Tour were discussed in detail. It was brought to notice of Chairman that PCB at best would break even by organizing tour on a neutral venue. Presently the situation appeared grim.

The high level meeting also took up the issue of the scrutiny and elections of the District Cricket Associations all over the country and the clubs were directed to contact PCB in case they face any problem regarding receipt of clubs data information performa.
