Skerritt faces grilling over Windies injury list
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 11, 2002

ST JOHN'S, Antigua (Reuters)
National team manager Ricky Skerritt will be questioned by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Saturday about the series of injuries sustained by his side last year.

Cameron Cuffy limped out of West Indies' tour to Zimbabwe after suffering a stress fracture while Shivnarine Chanderpaul's back injury prevented him from touring Sri Lanka. Reon King also played no part after he was diagnosed as having a suspected hernia.

Brian Lara, dogged by a hamstring injury for much of last year which forced him to miss the tour to Zimbabwe, then dislocated his left elbow after colliding with Sri Lanka's Marvin Atapattu during a one-day international.

Leon Garrick, who was diagnosed as having a heart condition and Dinanath Ramnarine, who had a side strain, missed the one-day series.

"It is worrying to see our players getting injured so often," Wes Hall, president of the WICB, said on Thursday. "It is a very expensive exercise when we have to be constantly shuttling players to and from tours because we have so many injured players and that too is a concern.

"We are mindful of what people have been saying and now we want to listen to the experts for them to advise us. It is uncommon for us to see so many injuries in our side."
