Jadeja blows hot in the desert Wisden CricInfo staff - January 21, 2002
In the second of six instalments running throughout the India-England series, we delve into the Wisden Almanack archive to pick out a memorable one-day match between the sides. Here we look at a rare meeting in Sharjah Match 1: When Botham met Tendulkar
Coca-Cola Cup, April 11, 1999 England haven't been to Sharjah very often. And India haven't been over-keen on the place either, grumbling that Pakistan receive better treatment. But with a World Cup looming - on very different pitches in England - there were two meetings in three days during the triangular tournament in April 1999. India won the first by 20 runs, with Ajay Jadeja taking three wickets in his only over. It meant that England, who had already lost their first game in the competition to Pakistan, had to win this one to stand any chance of reaching the final. But when Jadeja starred again, this time with the bat, and England then collapsed to 66 for 4, it looked like a foregone conclusion. Nick Knight and Graham Thorpe, though, had other ideas.
