Short-lived recall for Moin Khan
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 23, 2002

KARACHI (Reuters)
Joy turned to disappointment for former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan, who just hours after being asked to reinforce the national team in Bangladesh was told he was no longer required.

"The team management had sent us a message earlier in the day asking for a wicketkeeper to cover for Rashid Latif," said chief selector Wasim Bari. "But later in the day they said Latif was OK.

"Latif apparently strained his hamstring during the match today, but is recovering well and will play in the remaining two one-dayers on Thursday and Friday."

Wasim Bari said that Moin had been informed of the change in plans by a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official.

Moin had been ignored by the PCB since he was sacked as captain and wicketkeeper after a disappointing tour of New Zealand early in 2001.

The PCB chairman, Lieutenant-General Tauqir Zia, expressed his surprise on getting the message from the team management. "I saw Latif coming on to the field and didn't know how serious his injury was."

Latif, who returned to the team in England last year after three years in the wilderness, won the Man-of-the-Match award for a fighting innings of 79 in the first one-dayer at Chittagong, and later told the PCB he was fit to play in the remaining two matches.

After a rest day on Wednesday, Pakistan play back-to-back matches to conclude the one-day series. Pakistan won the first game by 49 runs.
