Steven Lynch on the Australia Day milestones from Adelaide
Saturday, January 26, 2002

  • New Zealand completed four successive one-day victories over Australia for the first time. Apart from their three meetings in this tournament so far, NZ also won at Auckland on March 3, 2000.

  • Stephen Fleming was captaining New Zealand in a one-day international for the 100th time. This was his 39th victory while in charge, to go with 53 defeats, one tie and seven no-results.

  • Nathan Astle became New Zealand's highest runscorer in ODIs when he reached 44, to overhaul Martin Crowe's tally of 4704 runs in 143 matches. Astle fell just short of extending his NZ one-day centuries record - he still has 11 - but now has 4756 runs from 140 matches.

  • Shane Bond improved his best ODI bowling figures for the second match running. His 5 for 25 bettered 4 for 37 in the previous match, against South Africa at Brisbane. Bond now has 15 wickets in his five ODIs, at the impressive average of 13.80.

  • Craig McMillan was playing in his 99th ODI.
