Australia v Zimbabwe 9th ODI 2000-2001
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002

At Sydney, January 28 (day/night). Australia won by 86 runs.
Toss: Australia.
Having missed out in Adelaide, the rest of the Australian batting had a chance to shine here. Gilchrist and Mark Waugh, reunited as openers, put together their second successive opening stand of 98, but it was the middle order who stepped up the pace, amassing 291, the tournament's biggest total to date. Their final assault brought a round 100 from ten overs. Bevan top-scored, accumulating an unbeaten 74 in 70 balls, and later he ended the Zimbabweans' best stand, 92 between Carlisle and Andy Flower. Carlisle struck two sixes off Warne, but was eventually trapped by him. There had never been much chance that Zimbabwe could prevent Australia's sixth straight win.

Man of the Match: M. G. Bevan.
Attendance: 33,748.
