Only 10.3 overs possible on first day v Sussex
Vic Isaacs - 3 July 2002
Only 10 overs and three balls were possible on the first day of the Frizzell County Championship match against Sussex at The Rose Bowl.
Heavy overnight rain delayed the 200th first-class match between the sides, with no possible play before lunch, play finally getting underway at 3pm.
Chris Adams won the toss for Sussex and chose to bat first, but may have rued his decision when Alan Mullally forced opener Murray Goodwin to edge to second slip Kenway. This was followed by a suicidal run by Richard Montgomerie, whose push and run into the covers was picked up by Will Kendall who threw down the stumpts directly.
After just 10.3 overs, the teams came off for bad light for an early tea, but soon the rain came, and two very heavy showers meant the umpires calling play off for the day at 4.40pm.
