Kenway dropped as Hampshire announce 11 for Leicester
Richard Isaacs - 8 July 2002
Hampshire name a straight eleven man squad for the Frizzell County Championship trip to second-placed Leicestershire, but there is no place for opening batsman Derek Kenway.
Kenway, who has yielded just 238 runs in fifteen Championship innings this season at a meagre average of 18.30, makes way for the returning John Francis.
Giles White is promoted to open the batting with Will Kendall in an otherwise unchanged side from that that played out the draw with Sussex last week. Francis is down to bat at number six.
Director of Cricket Tim Tremlett said, "We felt that Derek was short of runs in the Championship and it would be a good opportunity for him to work at his game and build up some confidence in the second XI.
"John Francis deserves his chance after his good summer at Loughborough University, and we are looking to him to reproduce the form he showed at the latter end of last season."
Kenway and James Tomlinson, who impressed in his first outing with the first team on Sunday, are in the squad for the NUL match at Southend on Sunday against Essex Eagles.
Skipper Robin Smith and left-arm seamer Alan Mullally, who both missed the Norwich Union clash at the Rose Bowl last Sunday, return to the fold.
Team: Will Kendall, Giles White, John Crawley, Robin Smith (capt), Neil Johnson, John Francis, Nic Pothas (w-k), Dimitri Mascarenhas, Shaun Udal, Chris Tremlett, Alan Mullally.
