Havant breeze into last 8 of ECB Clubs Competition Mike Vimpany - 15 July 2002
Havant are through to the quarter-finals of the ECB Club Championship for the first time in their history. They brushed aside the disappointment of a three-wicket defeat by Southern Electric Premier League champions BAT Sports 24 hours earlier by knocking out Clifton & Optimists, the powerful West of England Premier League club. Havant struggled for runs, with Paul Gover (38) and Steve Snell (37) top scoring in a modest 138-7 off 50 overs. But Clifton, who had beaten 2001 finalists Bath in the previous round, never got into their stride. Malcolm Hobson, with 4-18, and Richard Hindley (2-9) did the damage as the Bristol club were skittled for 83. © SPCL / Daily Echo / Mike Vimpany
