South African squad announced for Africa Cup in Lusaka
Bronwyn Wilkinson - 24 July 2002

The National Selectors have named a side combining youth and experience to take part in the African Cricket Association's Africa Cup in Lusaka in September.

The South African team:

Ahmed Amla - Captain - KwaZulu-Natal
Zahir Abrahim - Griquas
Ryno Arendse - Free State
Henry Davids - Boland
Con de Lange - Boland
Warren Dugmore - Gauteng
Zwelibanzi Homani - Eastern Province (wk)
Pierre Joubert - Northerns
Johnson Mafa - Gauteng
Marthinus Otto - Gauteng
Robin Peterson - Eastern Province
Alfonso Thomas - North West
Johan van der Wath - Free State
Monde Zondeki - Border
Manager: Nabeal Dien
Coach: Chris van Noordwyk

The convenor of national selectors, Omar Henry, said: "We have chosen a team that we believe will do very well in the Cup. It combines several players with first-class experience with players who are coming through and who played in the Under 19 World Cup last year."

The tournament takes place in Lusaka, Zambia, from 1-8 September and some of the countries competing include Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda. The Cup is held every second year and South Africa last won it in Zimbabwe in 1997.
