Somerset Board lose out to the weather at Dean Park
Richard Walsh - 9 June 2002

Somerset Board XI were frustrated by the weather yet again when their match against Dorset in the 38 County Cup was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The Somerset team left Taunton at 8am this morning and travelled down to Bournemouth through thick rain. When they got close to the town the rain stopped but as they arrived at Dean Park it started to fall again, and continued to do so until the match was eventually called off at 1.30pm.

This is the second match in succession where the Somerset Board XI have been frustrated by the elements. Two weeks ago they were due to play Devon in the 38 County Cup, but even after the match was switched to Exmouth they still didn't bowl a ball.

Board XI manager Peter Robinson told me: "It's very disappointing for us, and sadly now we have no chance of qualifying for the next stage of the competition. We have been well and truly scuppered by the weather."

The Somerset Board XI play their final match in the competition when they take on Cornwall at North Perrott next Sunday.
