ICC approves Tangier to host International cricket
ICC Media Release - 21 June 2002

The ICC has granted international status to the Tangier Cricket Stadium in Morocco, official approval that will allow it become north Africa's first international cricket venue.

Last week, ICC Match Referee Mike Procter visited Morocco to carry out a detailed inspection of the ground, facilities and infrastructure. His report to the ICC recommended that the stadium should be granted international status, after meeting all of the relevant cricketing admission criteria.

The ICC's approval is backed by the endorsement of the ICC Anti Corruption Unit (ACU), which has audited the stadium against stringent security standards and protocols. Measures adopted will mirror those recommended by the ACU and implemented for cricket in Sharjah.

Tangier is due to host its first international tournament in August, when Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka compete in a One Day triangular series.

Cricket in Morocco is administered by the Federation Royale Morocaine De Cricket (FRMC), an Affiliate member of the ICC. Tournaments will be organised for the FRMC by the Sharjah-based Cricketers Benefit Fund Series.
