Paul Hitchcock
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 5, 2002
Wisden overview An unheralded medium-pacer from Wellington, Hitchcock might have been expected to get a touch of vertigo when New Zealand's long-standing injury crisis got him a call-up for the tour of West Indies in 2002 - he was in Holland playing club cricket at the time. A one-day specialist who has only ever played one first-class match, his party trick is bowling at the death, he was the leading wicket-taker in the 2001-02 one-day State Shield, with 22 wickets at an average of 14. His nagging accuracy and changes of pace make him a natural successor to the likes of Gavin Larsen, Rod Latham and Chris Harris, who wobbled New Zealand to the semi-finals of the 1992 World Cup.
