BCCSL to pay Dambulla Stadium contractors by next Friday

Further to the media release dated 22nd February 2002 regarding "BCCSL receives clearance to pay Dambulla Stadium contractors," the Interim Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka has decided to complete outstanding payments to contractors for the construction of the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium by early March 2002.
The amount outstanding for work so far completed is approximately Rs. 95.437 million. A meeting was held last Saturday between officials of the BCCSL and representatives of the contractors, and representatives of Surath Wickremasinghe Associates, and it was agreed that the payment will be made to the contractors, upon Surath Wickremasinghe Associates forwarding a letter to the BCCSL stating that they will take full and final responsibility for all payments certified by them with regard to the quality and quantum of work carried out.
Surath Wickremasinghe Associates also agreed to advise the current contractors to complete the balance construction work on the Stadium.
The time frame for completion of the project would be forwarded by Surath Wickremasinghe Associates to the BCCSL by the first week of March 2002. The value of work to be completed has been estimated by Surath Wickremasinghe Associates at approximately Rs. 64.3 million.
With regard to contracts awarded by the National Development Centre of the BCCSL, the quality, quantum and value of work will be ascertained by a committee headed by the Consultant Engineer of the BCCSL by Friday, the 1st of March 2002. Upon certification of such payments being made by this committee, payments will be made within ten days to such suppliers and contractors.
