Muttiah Muralitharan heads latest Lion Ratings
BCCSL - 6 March 2002
Sri Lanka's off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, continues to head the latest Lion Ratings, which rate Sri Lankan players according to their performance in batting, bowling and fielding in both Test and One-Day-Internationals.
Lion Ratings, which is powered by CricInfo.com, is a sophisticated rating system that computes the aggregate value of each Sri Lankan player. Even catches are taken into consideration and an aggregate value is produced for each player over a 12-month period.
Muralitharan's wicket-taking exploits have been so phenomenal over the past year that he has retained the Lion Ratings crown ever since their launch last October.
Captain Sanath Jayasuriya is the second most valuable player after his recent good form in Test cricket and his regular contributions with his left-arm spin. Chaminda Vaas is the number three, with Mahela Jayawardene in the number four position, followed by Vice Captain Marvan Atapattu.
