Paparoa Street School take Milo League
Canterbury Cricket Association - 25 March 2002

Paparoa Street School have taken out the inaugural Milo League Final in a hard fought match against Tai Tapu School today. The competition is an eight-a-side tournament which has been run by Canterbury Cricket for Year five and six girls in the first term of the year.

Both teams were unbeaten in pool play and came out on top in last Friday's semi-finals, to meet today and decide the winner of the competition.

The game was played at Tai Tapu school on their artificial cricket wicket and both sides had good support from parents, while Tai Tapu allowed many classes from the school to come out and support their team.

Tai Tapu won the toss, elected to field first and Paparoa Street scored 74 off their 12 overs. Camille Hughes top scored with 21, which Rebecca Lough made 16 and Amelia Dalman made 14. Gina Hart was the best bowler for Tai Tapu and was backed up well by Hannah McLeod.

Tai Tapu also batted well but losing wickets consistently cost them and after 12 over they had scored 35. Emily Reynolds made 9, Alex Bishop made 12 and Hannah McLeod made 8. Bowling for Paparoa Street twins Laura and Camille Hughes picked up wickets, as did Sophia Dalman.

In the end the margin of victory for Paparoa Street did not reflect the closeness of the game and it was obvious that both sides had put many hours of practice in as the skill level was very high.

The competition was a real success and it is hoped to build on the team entry numbers for next season.
