Nice work, Shane
Wisden CricInfo staff - March 7, 2002

  • Shane Warne is the 25th person to make 100 Test appearances, and the first full-time spin bowler. He is also the seventh Australia to reach the milestone, after Allan Border, the Waugh brothers, Ian Healy, David Boon and Mark Taylor, a group that played together in 17 Tests between 1992-93 and 1993-94.
  • Warne made his debut against India at Sydney in 1991-92, when he took 1 for 150 and was pummelled round the park by Ravi Shastri.

  • Before this match Warne had taken 436 wickets at an average of 26.52. He is the second greatest wicket-taker in Test history, behind Courtney Walsh (519). He has taken most wickets against England (118 at 22.82) but has the lowest average against South Africa (87 at 21.66, with an economy rate of 1.99 runs per over).

  • Famously, Warne struggles against India. In Tests against them he has 20 wickets at an average of 52.25.

  • He has taken more wickets overseas: 225 at 26.77 in 52 Tests, as against 211 at 26.24 in 47 Tests in Australia.

  • Warne's most productive years were 1993 and 1994, when he took 72 wickets (at 23.56) and 70 (at 18.20) respectively.
