England stars to play for Sabres in their NUL opener on Sunday
Richard Walsh - 11 May 2002

Following closely on the heels of their resounding victory over Yorkshire there was even more good news for Somerset when they were told that England stars Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick, who both played such a vital part in the championship victory, would be able to turn out for the club on Sunday.

The presence of their two England stars will no doubt go some way to make up for the disappointment at the news that Sir Viv Richards was unable to attend on the Golden Jubilee Day to open the new gates at the Priory Road entrance that are dedicated to his honour.

Somerset chief executive Peter Anderson told me: "On the back of our great victory this is excellent news for us, and will help to make the Golden Jubilee Day this Sunday a very special occasion for the club."

Coach Kevin Shine has made just two changes from the championship side for the Sabres opening NUL game against Yorkshire Phoenix on Sunday.

Following his success for Somerset Second XI against Worcestershire in the week all rounder Pete Trego is recalled in place of Simon Francis, who is rested ahead of Wednesday's championship game, and fast bowler Steffan Jones is also added to the squad and is expected to play.
