Naming of the TelstraClear Black Caps delayed due to player contract negotiations
New Zealand Cricket - 23 May 2002

New Zealand Cricket and the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association (NZCPA) are currently in negotiation over an Interim Player Contract which will cover the period of the West Indies tour.

Those negotiations are incomplete and until a resolution has been reached the TelstraClear Black Caps team to tour the West Indies will not be named.

New Zealand Cricket is hopeful that negotiations will be concluded tomorrow and will advise details of the team announcement as soon as practical.

New Zealand Cricket is not at liberty to disclose the issues under negotiation at this time.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden said he was disappointed that the negotiations had not been completed in time to name the team today.

"I had expected that the negotiations would be resolved by now, however, I felt the players needed some space after their early return from Pakistan. This delayed the start of our negotiations with the players' representative."

The TelstraClear Black Caps are due to depart for the West Indies on May 28.
