New Zealand Cricket and the New Zealand Cricket Player's Association reach agreement on interim player contracts
New Zealand Cricket - 24 May 2002

New Zealand Cricket and the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association (NZCPA) today reached agreement on an interim player contract to cover the next five months.

Twenty players have now been contracted for a period which encompasses the tour of the West Indies and the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka in September.

Negotiations on the interim contract were finalised this morning when resolution on matters of player remuneration were reached.

Negotiations between New Zealand Cricket, the Major Associations, and the NZCPA on a long-term contract to cover both international and domestic players will continue during the period of the interim contract.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden said he was pleased with the outcome of his negotiations with the NZCPA.

"We started the negotiations on this interim contract a little later than we would have liked because both New Zealand Cricket and the NZCPA felt it was important to give the players some space after their sudden return from Pakistan.

"However we have worked through the issues with the NZCPA in a positive manner and resolved all issues within a short timeframe.

"It was unfortunate that the naming of the team to tour the West Indies was delayed by 24 hours but this was the appropriate course of action in the circumstance."

The TelstraClear Black Caps leave for the West Indies on Tuesday 28 May to play five One-Day Internationals followed by two Tests.
