Hong Kong thrash Sri Lanka to win Sixes Plate final Staff Reporter - 3 November 2002
Hong Kong captain Rahul Sharma became only the third batsman to score a half-century in the Hong Kong Sixes as the hosts thrashed Sri Lanka by 29 runs to win the plate final. The 42-year-old Sharma, who had earlier played a match-winning role in the plate semi-final against UAE, smashed 54 off 15 balls with six sixes and four fours to guide his team to 84-4. This after Sri Lanka captain Kausalya Weeraratne send the home team in on winning the toss. When Sri Lanka replied, Weeraratne made 23 off 10 balls, but with the rest of the batting failing, the men from the Emerald Isles could not escape a thrashing at the hands of the Hong Kong team. Sharma, who also had the honour of hitting the 200th six of the tournament during his innings, shone with the ball too, conceding just eight runs in the last over of the match. © CricInfo
