New Zealand Cricket and Major Associations disengage from player negotiations with NZCPA
New Zealand Cricket - 5 November 2002

The New Zealand Cricket and Major Association bargaining teams have disengaged from negotiations with the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association following the NZCPA's failure to accept New Zealand Cricket's final settlement offer.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden also announced today that the State Max competition, scheduled for November 16 and 17, and the Provincial A Competition, scheduled to begin on January 2, have been cancelled.

"Despite six months of negotiations with the NZCPA we have not made any progress on the key issues and the season is fast approaching. We have acted so we can get on with the State domestic season and to ensure we can field a team for the National Bank Series versus India," Mr Snedden said.

"Our final offer to the NZCPA was fair. It significantly increased remuneration and income security for both international and first-class domestic players.

"We have reached an impasse. The NZCPA offer today contained nothing new. The issues raised have been dealt with previously. It is now time for us to move forward and get on with the cricket season."
