Dawn Misbah, Wasim warm up for one-day series
Sports Correspondent - 13 November 2002

Misbah-ul-Haq warmed up for forthcoming one-day series in Zimbabwe with a polished knock of 78 that enabled PCB Reds crush PCB Greens by 129 runs in the Super League One-day Ramazan Cup Cricket Tournament at Gaddafi Stadium Tuesday.

PCB Greens, who were set an imposing target of 264, were restricted to 134 for nine in 34 overs with last man Najaf Shah absent through an injury.

PCB Reds skipper Wasim Akram, who is also in the national one-day squad, put PCB Greens in trouble by taking two wickets on successive deliveries at the start of the innings.

Wasim, the ace left-arm fast bowler, removed Mohammad Ramzan and Khaqan Arsal for golden ducks. Bazid Khan denied Wasim hat trick.

Wasim finished with two for 22 in six overs. Having earlier made an unbeaten 33, Wasim was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match and received Rs 5,000 in the process.

Wasim got good support from Yasir Arafat and Faisal Afridi, both picking up two wickets each.

For PCB Greens, young opener Zeeshan Mohsin (32, four fours, 55balls) and captain Shoaib Malik (27) were the only batsmen to bat for any duration.

Earlier, putintobat, PCB Reds lost Test opener Imran Nazir(17), Khalid Latif (23) and Yasir Hameed (5) at the total of 74. However, Misbah and Naumanullah batted with great authority to retrieve the situation in a fourth-wicket stand worth 121 runs in just 80 minutes.

Left-arm pacer Najaf Shah finally got the breakthrough when he had Misbah caught by Bazid. Misbah's 103-ball innings included nine fours and earned a cash prize of Rs 2,000.

Naumanullah went after making an 80-ball 59 with five hits to the fence.

Yasir Hameed of PCB Greens was also honoured with a cash award of Rs 2,000 for taking two catches.
