Draw announced for 2003 ECC Indoor Championships Michael Bailey - 29 November 2002
Following the national team's third place in the 2002 ECC Indoor Championships in Mechelen, the team has been drawn in a group with hosts Denmark, holders Greece, 2001 winners Portugal, 2001 runners-up Holland and Spain. The tournament will consist of a round-robin (all teams play each other once) to be followed by a knock-out tournament. Austria won the championships at Lords in 1996, having been the venue for the first ever indoor championships (played on board the School Ship on the Danube in 1995). For the first time there will be a plate competition, for those teams who are knocked out of the main tournament, ensuring that all teams will be playing on the final day, with the Plate Final and Championship Final being played on the Sunday afternoon. The other group will be made up of France, 2002 runners-up Ireland, Italy, semi-finalists Germany as well as the Swiss, who are playing in the tournament having not competed in 2002 as well as Norway, in their first ever indoor championships and Sweden, the 1997 hosts and champions, with Gibraltar and Belgium not taking part this year. The tournament will also see multi-coloured kits, squad numbers, and there is also a get together to celebrate the Danish Cricket Association's 50th anniversary. The weekend promises to be excitement packed, with the provisional training squad for the Austrian team due to start their training programme in early December. © Austrian Cricket Association
