Rahul Dravid named Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year

Rahul Dravid was declared the `Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year 2001-2002' at the fifth annual Castrol Awards Ceremony held at Hotel Taj Coromandel, Chennai, on Wednesday night.

Rahul Dravid was presented the Award, comprising a trophy and a cheque for Rs 5 lakhs, by Naveen Kshatriya, Chief Executive and Managing Director, Castrol India Ltd. This is the second time that Rahul Dravid has won this prestigious award. He had won this award in 1998-99.

An audience comprising several distinguished former and current cricketers and media personalities watched Naveen Kshatriya hand over the `Castrol Lifetime Achievement in Cricket Award' trophy to BS Chandrasekhar. The Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award comprises a trophy and a cheque for Rs 5 lakhs.

Parthiv Patel, the youngest wicketkeeper to play Test cricket, received the Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year trophy and cheque for Rs 50,000/- from Farokh Engineer.

The Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year Award has been won earlier by Jyoti Yadav (1997-98), Rajesh Pawar (1998-99), Yuvraj Singh (1999-00) and Ajay Ratra (2000-01).

Diana Edulji received the CASTROL OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO WOMEN'S CRICKET award and a cheque for Rs 1 lakh from the former Indian cricketer Brijesh Patel.

Mithali Raj, who rewrote the record books with her recent innings of 214 in England, making her the highest run scorer in women's cricket, received CASTROL OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN WOMEN'S CRICKET award for the year 2001-02 and a cheque for Rs 1 lakh from VVS Laxman.
