Hauritz to shake jetlag and play for Queensland
Michael Crutcher - 26 October 2002

BRISBANE, Oct 25 AAP - Young off-spinner Nathan Hauritz will shake off jetlag to play for Queensland in Sunday's ING Cup one-day clash with Tasmania at the Gabba.

Hauritz returned to Brisbane at dawn today after completing his first tour with the Australian Test squad in the 3-0 clean sweep of Pakistan in Colombo and Sharjah.

The 21-year-old engineered a run out as 12th man in the third Test earlier this week during an enthusiastic learning experience with the Test squad.

While teammates Matthew Hayden and Andrew Bichel will be rested from Sunday's match, Hauritz was keen to play against the Tigers.

"Obviously it won't be easy after such a long flight but I'm really looking forward to getting back on the cricket field to play," Hauritz said today.

"It was a great experience but it's nice to be home."

Hauritz will attend the Bulls' final training session tomorrow morning, mainly to listen to the team planning meeting.

He replaces paceman Damien MacKenzie in the Queensland squad which beat NSW by 46 runs at the Gabba last Sunday.

Hauritz's performances will be closely watched by Australian selectors, who successfully gambled on the versatile player in South Africa earlier this year.

Hauritz took three wickets in four one-day matches against the Proteas before claiming four wickets in his sole appearance against Kenya in Nairobi in September.

Another promising burst through the Australian summer will ensure Hauritz returns to South Africa for next February's World Cup.

Queensland will start short-priced favourites to beat Tasmania in the Tigers' first outing of the domestic season.

The Pura Cup finalists have been in Queensland for the past week, hoping to avoid the slow start which almost ruined their hopes last season.

Jamie Cox will again lead the Tigers in the absence of Australian one-day skipper Ricky Ponting while Tassie's one-day all-rounder Shane Watson will play against his former state.

The Bulls sit in third place on the points table after failing to take a bonus point against the Blues.

Queensland: Jimmy Maher (capt), Martin Love, Lee Carseldine, Andrew Symonds, Clinton Perren, Brendan Nash, James Hopes, Wade Seccombe, Ashley Noffke, Michael Kasprowicz, Nathan Hauritz, Scott Brant. (All 12 to play).

Tasmanian Tigers: Jamie Cox (capt), Michael DiVenuto, Michael Dighton, Graeme Cunningham, Shane Watson, Daniel Marsh, George Bailey, Sean Clingeleffer, Damien Wright, Shannon Tubb, Gerard Denton, Adam Griffith, Xavier Doherty. (one to be omitted).
