WA 1-48 at lunch
AAP - 28 October 2002

PERTH, Oct 28 AAP - Western Australia had made a solid start in its first innings at lunch on day one of a three-day cricket tour match against England at WACA ground today.

The home team lost Test opener Justin Langer in a rain-shortened opening session to be 1-48 with Scott Meuleman (21no) and Chris Rogers (4no) at the crease.

England captain Nasser Hussain won the toss and sent the Warriors into bat on a pitch with a little bit of life in it.

The WA openers safely negotiated the home team to 0-21 before a 45-minute rain delay.

But shortly after resuming the innings captain Justin Langer was dismissed after a sharp catch in close by John Crawley.

Veteran quick Andy Caddick (1-16) looked like he had found his line and length on the bouncy WACA pitch and was rewarded with Langer's dismissal.

He managed to move the ball back into the left-hander and the ball squeezed off an inside edge quickly to Crawley's right.
