Robin Singh to lead Indian challenge at Hong Kong
Staff Reporter - 29 October 2002

Robin Singh, experienced battler in many Indian one-day campaigns, will head the Indian contingent at the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes on November 2 and 3. Robin, who was also the skipper last year, is at the head of a seven-man squad for the six-a-side tournament.

Also in the squad is Indian discard Nayan Mongia, a wicket-keeper who's chances of regaining the national team appear more remote with every passing tour. Atul Wassan, television commentator and retired first-class player, will be the other senior player in the side.

The squad also includes four youngsters who must surely harbour hopes of donning Indian colours again. All-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi, off-spinners Nikhil Chopra and Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and southpaw Hemang Badani are all known for big hits, a crucial part of this festival tourney.

India finds itself in Pool One, along with South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. The top two teams of each pool - once the pool games have been played - will move into the Cup semi-finals, while the bottom teams of each pool will face off in the Plate semi-finals.
