WA haul in England's lead
AAP - 30 October 2002

PERTH, Oct 30 AAP - Western Australia overhauled England's first innings lead at lunch on the final day of a three-day cricket match at the WACA.

The Warriors were 2-122 with Chris Rogers (60no) and Justin Langer (45no) at the crease, to lead the tourists by eight runs.

Opener Michael Hussey (14) was the only batsman to be dismissed this morning after WA resumed at 1-16.

He attempted to pull a Simon Jones delivery but ended up top-edging it down to fine leg where Andy Caddick took a fine sprawling catch.

It was a disappointing knock for the 27-year-old Hussey who would have been looking to further his chances for a berth in the Australian team.

However his scores of 0 and 14 in this encounter will hardly have impressed national selector David Boon who was watching the match.

Test opener Langer then came in at No.4 after deciding not to open the innings in the final seven overs of play last night because of a sore neck.

He lived dangerously, playing almost an identical shot on seven to the misguided stroke which dismissed Hussey.

However Langer's shot flew a few metres finer and went for four.

Langer and Rogers then continued batting in an attacking vein on a fairly lifeless pitch and had put together an unbeaten 99-run partnership by the interval.
