South Africa v Sri Lanka 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 18, 2002
At East London, December 17. South Africa won by 95 runs. Toss: South Africa. McKenzie's maiden one-day international century appeared to knock all belief in victory out of the tourists. Reprieved on 35, sweeping at Muralitharan, he scored 120 in 135 balls, with 13 fours and a six, relishing anything short but also showing unaccustomed skill against spin with a series of lapped sweep shots and late cuts. He shared rollicking stands with Rhodes and Boucher, who delighted his home crowd with 55 in just 48 balls. Only Muralitharan conceded less than five an over as South Africa ran up 302 for seven. When Pollock struck twice in his first three overs, the match was as good as over, which Jayawardene appeared to confirm during his leisurely 59 from 84 balls.
Man of the Match: N. D. McKenzie.
